The Inclusive Business Initiative in Ghana

In 2023-2024, the German Agency for Development Cooperation (GIZ) commissioned a landscape study on Inclusive Business (IB) and Inclusive Green Business (IGB). The study was undertaken by Dr. Armin Bauer, a development economist, and CDC Consult, a Ghanaian consulting firm. The study involved three (3) major components as specifically, finding, assessing, pre-rating and profiling companies with IB/IGB business lines; developing recommendation for a strategic program in support of IB/IGB companies; and assisting in institutionalizing the policy recommendations. The outcome of the study led to the development of a 10-Point Strategic Program for creating a better enabling environment for IB/IGB and created ownership and support for a private sector led, government owned, development partners supported and multi-stakeholder implemented strategic program in support of IB/IGB companies in Ghana

IB/IGB Accreditation

48
Weighted Criteria

168
Benchmarks

Accreditation is based on a transparent composite rating tool with 48 criteria and 168 benchmarks, determines the company’s direct (no trickle-down assumption) attribution to social or environmental change in a society.

The composite rating for each company is determined by the average rating by a team certified inclusive business consultants, after which a recommendation is made to the Accreditation Committee. Companies with a scoring above certain eligibility thresholds would qualify as IB/IGB.

The Accreditation Committee makes the final determination for accreditation. Presentation of Accreditation is made during the annual AGI Ghana Industry and Quality Awards.
